Community service at Los Medanos Elementary was an extravagant experience. This gave our group an opportunity to entertain these adorable kids about science. When I arrived, the atmosphere brought back memories to when I was in elementary school, it made me realize how time can pass real fast. However, my group have prepared almost everything, but I managed to organize the dish soap and the vinegar into the small beakers. We were so organized because our group knew what to do, and all of us had that strong friendship which made this more enjoyable. As kids came up and experimented our "Elephant Toothpaste," many kids were amazed due to the fact that as it erupt, the colors kept changing which stood out to them the most. Even though, two or three of us had to keep walking back and forth to the bathroom to clean up the foam and color off the beaks and trays. At least, this was a colorful but messy experiment.
My group was calm in the beginning, however more kids came all at once which made it difficult for our group to clean off the mess and present them the experiment as fast as we can. Our group struggled but we were all so motivated to do everything we can to entertain the kids, and we did. Since everyone in our group was so committed, we were all cheering for the kids as our experiment worked. Time went by so fast because my group and I got our stuff together and pulled this experiment off perfectly.
The parents and kids loved our experiment because many of them were so interested about whats inside the "Elephant Toothpaste." For instance, this girl wouldn't leave our station because she loved the beautiful outcomes of the color, In the corner of my eye I can see her mom smiling. On the other hand, each time we continue to experiment with the children, the color became colors we never expected which surprised us.
I would totally experience this over again, I can't explain how much fun this was to me. People were telling me how I have good relationships with kids, I can agree with them because I love to make kids smile and laugh. That's always my main goal. In addition, our group learned new ways to make our experiment the best it can be. Instead of putting vinegar first, we put that last, making our eruption faster and more entertaining. Lastly, I noticed how our group learned to work patiently and companionly when being rushed, which made everything more better.
